Mattatuck Museum in Waterbury, CT

Nadine Robbins exhibits at Mattatuck Museum

January 18, 2026

“This initiative aims to both support and acknowledge contemporary art, offering a significant platform for artists to showcase their creativity. MIXMASTER provides an opportunity for both established and emerging artists to present their latest works, created within the past three years. Through this exhibition, artists gain the visibility and recognition they deserve, while art enthusiasts have the chance to experience a wide array of fresh, innovative pieces. The exhibition not only highlights the vibrant art scene in these regions but also fosters a sense of community and appreciation for contemporary artistic expression.”

Juma Sultan is a jazz musician and percussionist, best known for his appearance at the 1969 Woodstock festival in Bethel, New York, where he played with Jimi Hendrix.

“I dedicated 280 hours to painting his portrait, immersing myself in his story, his music, and Loft Jazz” - Nadine Robbins

Juma was invited to Nadine’s studio to view the finished portrait where the two got talking, leading to Nadine recording an interview with Juma. In the interview, Juma goes over “fascinating stories about his personal and musical life in California, New York City, and Woodstock.”
