Denise Franchino
7 May - 29 May 2010
Opening Reception: Friday, 7 May 2010 | 6-9 pm
About the exhibition:
Born and raised in Binghamton, NY, Denise Franchino considers this city “home”. Residents of Binghamton will often find familiarity in her subjects - the iconic historic buildings of downtown and the surrounding areas, the neon-washed avenues from the signs of our favorite hometown restaurants, and her nod to the places that intrigued Rod Serling in the Twilight Zone.
Working in the medium of pastel, Franchino’s paintings conain an eerie atmospheric realism combined with a quiet comfort and solitude that pervades city’s landscape. Her scenes are often void of figures, but their presence exists behind the glare of a headlight, or the illuminated light from within a building. Aside from her portfolio of Binghamton works, Franchino also has painted numerous street views of New York City.
