Korean-American, b. 1971

Born to an illustrator mother and a sculptor father, Leeah Joo has been exposed to the arts from an early age. She was born in Seoul, Korea, and immigrated to Indianapolis at the age of 10. She spent her youth in the U.S. and studied painting and art history at Indiana University. She then went on to complete a Masters of Fine Arts in painting at Yale School of Art. Throughout her career her work has been widely exhibited in the United States and South Korea, and she has received awards from Pollock Krasner, George Sugarman Foundation and Connecticut Commission on Arts.

In 1996 Joo began teaching and serving as a visiting artist at various American universities, including the Kansas City Art Institute, Maryland Institute College of Art, Hartford Art School and Fairfield University. She is currently a professor at Southern CT State University and Paier College, and resides in Middlebury, CT.
